About

Bukedea District was formerly part of Kumi District. The District is Located about 31 km on the Mbale-Kumi Road. It has beautiful savannah vegetation and unique inselbergs and Tors found in Kachumbala, Bukedea, Malera and Kolir sub counties. The District has good climaticcharacteristics and favourable weather that is biomodal rain pattern for growing a variety of crops Citrus,Cassava, rice, sorghum,sweet patatoes, maize and Groundnuts. It also favours the rearing of animals such us; Poultry, Goats, sheep and cattle. The District is bordered by Kumi District in the North, Sironko District in the East and Mbale and Paliisa Districts in the South Bukedea District has a total population of 149,500 of which 48% are male while the remaining 52% are female. The main languages spoken in the district are English and Ateso.
